Soak the rice before cooking for 2 hours
Mix the meat and the marinade all together. You can keep the marinade in the fridge for 2 hours but this is optional. If you are using fish, do not marinade more then 20 minutes
Turn the Instantpot to sauté medium.
Separate out the whole spices
Add 2 tbsp cooking oil to the Instantpot once it is hot. Saute for about 1 minute
Add in the meat marinade and mix well and cover
Set the instant pot to pressure cook for 8 minutes. For chicken 6 minutes. For fish skip this step
Once the time is done, release the pressure
Open the lid, add the crispy fried onions and mix well
Place the prunes on top of the meat mixture
Strain the rice and layer on top of the meat mixture
In half a cup of water, dissolve the salt, food color and mix in saffron strands
Pour the water over the rice. The water should just cover the rice. Do not add all the water if the rice is already covered!
Cover and set the Instantpot to high pressure and 6 minutes
When the time in complete, release the pressure. You can also let it release naturally
Biryani is ready to serve. Garnish with cilantro
