Pakistani Keema (Ground Beef)
This is one recipe I have refined over time. I always make this for the family and we use it in many things. Have it with warm naan bread, sandwiches, in pasta, tacos or whatever else you like!
Ingredients
- 2 lb Extra Lean Ground Beef
- 2 tbsp Cooking Oil
- 1 Onion ~ 10 oz
- 1 Jalapeno pepper
- 1 Tomato
- 2 tbsp Garlic Paste
- 2 tbsp Ginger Paste
Whole Spices
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 2 tsp Cumin Seeds
Ground Spices
- 2 tsp Kashmiri Chili Powder
- 2 tsp Garam Masala (all spice)
- 1 tsp Cumin Powder
- 1 tsp Coriander Powder
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 tsp Ground Black Pepper
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1/2 tsp Chili Flakes (optional for extra spicy)
Instructions
- Onion, Jalapeno and Tomato
- Dice the Onion, Jalapeno and Tomato
- Whole Spices
- Ground Spices
- Heat a large skillet and add the cooking oil
- Add the cumin and mustard seeds. They will sputter
- Add the onions
- Fry for a few mins until the onions are slightly brown on medium heat
- Add the jalapeno, garlic and ginger
- Fry for a few minutes on medium heat
- Add all the ground spices and give it a quick mix
- Add the ground beef
- With a flat wooden spoon, break up the ground beef. Continue to scrape the bottom of the pan and breaking the ground beef so that there are no lumps
- Reduce to low heat, cover and cook for 10 minutes
- Open the skillet and add the tomatoes
- Mix in the tomatoes, cover and cook for another 10 minutes on low heat
- Open the lid and mix the ground beef. It is ready to serve
