Moong Dal Split (Split Green Gram/Lentils)
Moong dal can be bought in various forms. This is split moong dal with the skin on.
Equipment
- 1 Instant Pot
Ingredients
Pressure Cook Dal
- 1 cup Moong Dal Split
- 6 cups Water
- 1/2 Jalapeno
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric
- 1 tsp Kashmiri Chili Powder use 1/2 for less spicy
- 3 cloves Garlic
- 1 tsp Salt
Tarka (Tempering Spices)
- 2 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1/2 Onion ~ 3.5 oz
- 1 spring Curry Leaves ~ 14
- 1/2 Jalapeno
- 2 cloves Garlic
Instructions
- Cut all the ingredients
Pressure Cook the Dal
- Rinse the dal and add to the Instant Pot along with water, jalapeno, chili powder, salt and garlic
- Turn on the Instant Pot to pressure cook for 12 mins.
- Once done, slowly release the pressure
Tarka (Tempering Spices)
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a fry pan and add in the cumin seeds. Wait 30 seconds and add the onions
- After about 10 mins add the garlic, curry leaves and jalapenos
- Continue to fry until the mixture starts to turn brown
Finalize the Dal
- Open the instant pot and add the Tarka
- Saute on low for 5 mins
- Ready to serve. Garnish with cilantro if desired
